1. VAGUELY STAR SHAPED, SHARK AND BEAR EPs FOR THE NEW YEAR

We've got two EPs coming up at the end of this year: the second EP from Rhode Island foursome Vaguely Star Shaped, and the first EP from Massachusetts rockers Shark & Bear. VSS continues to refine their altogether elegant version of pop/rock on "The Lamplight EP," a four-song record with choruses rich with anchor-size hooks, articulate song arrangements mapped out to make a cartographer blush, and time changes so smooth you won't notice you're tapping the wrong foot. The first song from the EP, "Everyday Superhuman," is now available on the site for download as an mp3. Shark & Bear, with members of Fiesel, Score One For the Fat Kid, and Superagent, team up for a melding of visceral, spleen-venting rock, jazz-math dexterity, twisted, textured feedback, and consonant melodies galore, and their as-yet-untitled three-song EP follows up their split 7" with the Nationale Blue from earlier this year, though this time with vocals. The S&B EP will be a split with Agitprop! Records out of Los Angeles.

2. METHOD AND RESULT EP IN THE WINGS

We're now in talks with Pennsylvania duo the Method and Result to release an EP late in the winter. The pair mix asymmetric beats, upright bass, warm tones and mellifluous female vocals to recall post-rock, standards, and electronica in the same breath. We've also been in discussions with Florida label KiraKira Records to possibly split release the EP. The band will be touring throughout the eastern US in the spring to support the record. More news as it develops.

3. FIESEL GOES INTO HIBERNATION

Fiesel guitarist Jerry Sivret was in a car accident at the beginning of the month. He is alright, and should make a full recovery, but will be recovering for the rest of the fall and some of the winter, so Fiesel is officially on hiatus until then. When the band starts practicing again, they'll likely begin preparing for their second full-length, due some time next year.

4. BREAKING UP IS HARD TO... WELL, YOU KNOW

Add two more bands to the compilation graveyard; Bird gets the Smile and Centralia have called it quits. We'll try to keep you updated on the further pursuits of their respective band members.
