A little ditty, written by Thom about a "friend" (supressed chuckle.)
Known for Thom's egregious vocal vibrato at the end,
holding out "alright" for a good 45 seconds,
this song always punctuates our sets with liveliness,
and make sure you realize that when Thom says
"other girls," it is being said by a girl. Gasp!

I was just a poor buoy out to sea
Drowning in oceanic melancholy
When you appeared on the horizon
And against parental advisin'
I let you catch me

We drove out into the summer dark
Found a secluded place to park
Suddenly I was seeing things so clearer
You were nearer in my rear-view mirror
I spat poetry

We pulled each other up from the floor
You taught me to shop at the dollar store
I read to you from Lord Byron's brain
I bit you on the neck and ate your pain
But I can't complain

It was a warm summer night
The campfire gave off so little light
When the meteor struck my last bit of luck
I made sure you'd made it out all right
And now of course it rains but we always liked the rain
I can deal with the pain it'll be alright

Find my pulse it's somewhere in my neck
I can't find it, I've already checked
I'll trust you with my carotid artery
You can cut the cord if you get too bored with me
I'll go back to sea

One day we went out to Burning Bridge
Hopped the fence, climbed on down the ridge
We watched the water rush beneath our feet
And slowly, you turned around to face me

And you said
Something's changed, it's not you, it's me
Something deep in my psychology
I realize you've been giving me the world
But i think I'd rather be with other girls

And I said
Nothing broke inside of me today
If we can still hang out, then all's OK
We'll go away and start a brand new nation
Where love and train transcend all orientation
Meet me at the station.
